A very, very late bit of art (very hastily coloured when I realised how close Sutcliff Swap was!) for [livejournal.com profile] riventhorn's Sutcliff Companion's Comment Fest: The Shining Company's Luned and Gelert, looking windswept and wistful (well, maybe Gelert just looks like he wants a biscuit), all on their own after Prosper and Conn have left to... uhh... I actually can't remember? Someone borrowed my book a long time ago and still hasn't returned it, which also explains the very boring title as I have nothing to steal phrases from. Ah well. Doggie!

DOGGY!

Gelert looks suitably gormless. I like Luned's wistful nose.

Wolfhounds are now one of my favourite breeds of doggy. They're so big and shaggy and adorable!

This is so pretty! :D I especially like Luned's hair.

Thank you for commenting! Every time I get to draw nice long flowing hair I wonder why I waste so much of my life drawing men with boring haircuts.

Ahhhhh I love it, and Gelert is adorable, he's such a good dog and such a bad hound. I love him.

Gelert is my favourite! Clever dogs are okay, but I adore the big stupid loveable ones, and Gelert is exactly that!

Very beautiful. The colours are so gentle and warm, and I love the way you can feel the breeze and the sense of open space and sky.

Thank you very much! I had plans for a more detailed background, and then I remembered how much I hate drawing grass...

Very pretty. I like the away her hair curls in the wind.

Thank you! :) I do love drawing long curly hair; fabulous hairstyles is something I don't get to indulge in when drawing men in all my fandoms!

This is so pretty! I love the swooshiness (technical term) of her hair and clothes in the wind, and the folds of her dress (I always seem to leave you that comment), and shaggy Gelert's coat against the grass and hills.

And I will always be delighted to get that comment, drawing clothing folds is something I take very seriously. Thank you!

(swooshiness is the technical term used by all the great art historians and art critics)

Beautiful! I love the windswept feeling of it and how Gelert is looking at Luned. (Possibly for a biscuit but it looks more empathizing to me. :) I also really like how you did the grass and Gelert's fur.

Thanks very much, and cheers for running the fest - helped get me back into a Sutcliff-drawing mood just in time for the Swap! Though I'm glad you like that bit, I hope my recipient doesn't ask for lots of grassy scenes with furry animals, not after I've been brutally reminded how painful they are to draw...

(also, you should know that I now own a fridge magnet of that unicorn icon, and now I end up thinking "...hey, Sineala!" every time I go for milk)

Aw, it's so wistful and longing - the far away hills hold her interest and she herself holds the dogs ... wait, I just remembered that I used to cry over Spencer's Gelert poem http://www.gelert-petnutrition.co.uk/gelert-poem.pdf and so must stop looking at this art before ..... too late.

Oh, that story, it makes me so sad! Stupid man, jumping to conclusions and killing his poor brave doggy. This Gelert is very sweet but maybe not such a clever hound; he'd probably just try to make friends with the wolf.

Thanks! Heh, it might read as classic because it was, uh, very heavily inspired by an old Victorian illustration I found a teensy blurred thumbnail of, which I would post a link to if I could only remember what combination of wolfhound-related words I used to find it...

Thank you! Am very glad you like the colours - I was worried they were a bit washed out and the piece needed more sunshine and saturation, but then I think this kind of grey, overcast day is far more geographically accurate!
