I had a friend visit for the weekend and needed to entertain her. it was predicted rain, so we planned to brave the horde of families on their Easter outing and visit the indoors Tropical World in Leeds. Of course, the weather forecast was wrong and it was actually lovely and sunny. Oh well, at least it was warm in there, and I got some nice photos.

First up, some sociable little mice-like rodents. Or rat-like, I'm not sure. It's hard to read descriptions when you're trying to avoid being trampled to death by small children.

The star exhibits of Tropical World, the meerkats and their three new babies. Yeah, I suppose they're cute, but I've been so put off meerkats  by those stupid car insurance website ads. At least these ones didn't have Russian accents.

Feeding times for the greedy little brats. They weren't as cute eating as the slow lorris was, with it's adorable slow-motion two-handed grabbing - no photos of that I'm afraid, it's nocturnal so the light was non-existent.

Aaand... some flowers.

And then when I was merrily snapping away at flowers, I got this thing perching just a few centimeters away from my lens:

Oh you were in Leeds! It's a nice day out there although I haven't been when the schools are off. Lovely photos, especially the butterfly. I remember the meerkats ponging a bit!

I wouldn't recommend going there during the school holidays, it was a bit crazy! I just couldn't think of anywhere indoors to go, and my friend is quite the animal biology nerd. But it was still a nice day out.

Nice pictures, as always :) Nice comments too. I like the picture of someone being stepped on to death by children. That's quite how I picture them, deadly.

They're dangerous creatures, small children. And they make the most irritating sounds. I'm firmly of the opinion that children should neither be seen nor heard.

Omg! You're awful! Lol. Is that death or something on your icon taking the poor kiddies away? Hehe.

Yuck! I hate those little critters!! But nice shots :)

What? Meerkats are the animal of choice for your car insurance ads?? Lol, we've got Geckos. Wow they are odd looking creatures. I don't even think I'd ever heard of them or seen them until now...

Love the flower shots and the butterfly... I envy your picture taking skills. Always love seeing your picture posts :D

How goes it with the wedding planning? People still driving you mad?? I hope not. Keep us posted.

I found the meerkats quite amusing. All the families were cooing at them, thinking they were such lovely adorable creatures, but I've watched enough nature documentaries to know that they're actually nasty little things who regularly kill each others pups.

Ha, the wedding planning isn't really going anywhere. I got the dress sorted (it's green!) but that was a horrendous affair. Trying to block it from my memory!
