I had a lovely day today - sunny, warm (er, for April in the UK) weather, steak and ale pie in a shire horse-themed pub (even the wallpaper had horses on it) and a visit to Beeston Castle.

And the view from the castle I attempted to stitch into a panorama - I really need a tripod for this, it appears I can hold a camera at every angle but straight.

Very nice.

I love the shot looking up the slope and the panaorama is very cool :o)

I love the panorama. To me it looks great, and if you added a slight slope by not using a tripod, I didn't notice. I really like the view of the landscape. Thank God they haven't taken down all the trees and hedges like they did here.
And the castle is impressive. I wouldn't like to be the one sitting in front of it during a siege.
The Shire Horse themed pub sounds like fun. Have you ever seen a race run by Shires and other breeds of working horses instead of the vanilla throughbreds?

It was a really great view from the castle. You know, I've often wondered why farmers often have a tree or two right in the middle of their field that they have to avoid - my guess is that there are probably regulations about cutting them down.

Have you ever seen a race run by Shires and other breeds of working horses instead of the vanilla throughbreds?

Er... I saw the scene with the Clydesdales in Krull, does that count? Don't laugh at me, I only watched that film for young Liam. No, I haven't seen a race like that, I didn't even know that there were races for those larger horses. Wouldn't mind seeing one though, I love

I never saw Krull, did I miss a thing? Both for the Clydesdales and Liam? Since I'm fond of young!Liam: how much screen time has he in it?

As for the races, they're done here mostly as a part of work horse competitions or cattle shows. But it's fun to see these big fellows breaking into full gallop -- and they get fast once they've decided to run.

Um, no, you didn't miss anything. It was dreadful, and Liam was cute but had a very background role as member of hero's posse/cannon fodder. I watched it only because it was on TV and I had the computer to entertain myself inbetween glimpses of Liam. If you ever watch Krull, I suggest you do it that way.

Love the shot along the walls. It looks like a good castle to explore - it's been a castle day today!

It was a nice place - not much left of the castle, but the area it was set in was lovely.

It looks okay now, but it took a lot of editing and rotating in photoshop before I got it stuck together, and the scaled down image helps hide the uneven seams. But thanks!
