seascribe's Big Bang Eagle fic If the Darkness Lasts. It's an wonderful canon-era OT3 story... with zombies! A huge thank you to seascribe for writing such a fantastic and enjoyable story for me to illustrate, and for all her encouragement and endless patience every time I emailed her wailing "this is not my best work, I am so sorry, WHY IS STUPID MARCUS HOGGING ALL THE DRAWINGS?"
Warnings: NSFW for nudity/sexual content, and underage sexuality (Cottia is 16/17 years old, though an adult within the setting of the story and I've tried not to make her look visibly underage).
Also, some spoilers for the story, so I'd suggest reading that first (the art is embedded in the fic anyway).

I think my favorite is the cover art, actually -- I really like the composition of the three of them. Seriously, if I had a novel I would commission you to do the cover art.

I may have spent several hours trying to figure out horse backside perspective, tack, baggage, rider position, failing, working myself into a foul, miserable mood, then deciding I should just bloody well cheat for once before I determined whether the tablet or the computer would shatter first upon violent contact with the other. So uh, that foreground horse? Mostly traced. I wanted to finish it and get back to my videogame. THERE, NO NEED TO HATE ME.
My plan for the two weeks I have off in between here and the PhD is to knuckle down with that Loomis book and start working my way through. Other plans for that fortnight are packing up everything, moving up to Glasgow, reading about 20 papers for the PhD, seeing my parents, working on my Inception Big Bang art/Downton Abbey threesome art, seeing my parents, cleaning, a wedding. Too optimistic, you think?

Date: 2012-03-29 03:49 am (UTC)JESUS. I'm overwhelmed with not only the sheer number but the quality as well. They don't seem cartoony to me at all, more like illustrations in a graphic novel. I always associate cartoons with a more liberal sense of body proportion. That makes sense, right? They might not all have the level of detail you've put into things before, but I think all of them are beautifully finished as they are. I love all of them, and don't think I could choose just one as a favorite. Yes, I even love the zombie one, haha. The title piece is epic, though. Your Cottia looks fantastic, she will now be my headcanon!Cottia. I love how you drew her hair.
And the OT3 scene! Eeeee! Not that I needed much convincing but seascribe definitely turned me into a shipper, haha. :)
You said in a comment you got tired of the color scheme, but it fits so well with the mood of the story. I do love the colors and background textures of the Cottia/Marcus drawing though, it's so pretty.
I like the hatchmark shading, too. They add a nice texture.
Oh god I'm rambling, but you can't post seven (!!!!) pieces and not have me lose it.

I'm glad you like the style! I've never felt confident about my simpler style, so I'm thrilled you think it works. And yeah, I like the term graphic novel more than cartoony - talking of which, I love certain fanartists who have more of a cartoony style and don't keep things like proportions and likenesses too realistic, but whenever I try anything like that it just looks, well... shit. TELL ME YOUR SECRETS, YOU GUYS.
You know what's funny? This Cottia I've drawn isn't my headcanon, the Cottia you drew is my headcanon. This is not really the Cottia I pictured back when there was no art of her at all, but the wilder, curlier hair and MOAR FRECKLES would have just been a headache to draw. Once again, Zoe takes the lazy route! :P I'm really looking forward to seeing Bunn's version of Cottia - I think it's so awesome that we're finally getting fanart of her. :D

Date: 2012-03-29 11:31 am (UTC)I'm very fond of brown and earthy tones (an autumn person), so I loved the palette and didn't get bored of it at all - your pain is my gain, or something.
My favourite is the sex-with-Cottia one, I think because that scene is kind of heart-breaking as well as erotic. Marcus discovering that there is this other kind of arousal opens a door for the later discoveries of what else he can have that he's been denying himself (and everyone else).
These are fantastic bb. Reading the story and coming across each of them was like finding a little jewel.
