1. Your main fandom of the year?

I have two! Some time this year I decided to go from occasionally reading Inception fic when I run out of new Eagle fic, to falling in love with the characters throwing myself into the fandom several years too late. But I have not abandoned Eagle and still have a long, long list of ideas and sketches I intend to finish, although I guess I'm drifting away from Esca/Marcus and more towards Cottia/Esca/Marcus and film/bookverse gen and minor characters.

2. Your favourite film you watched this year?

The Dark Knight Rises! I don't care that it had all sorts of ridiculous plot holes, I fucking loved every second of it, and it made me sob my eyes out all through the last 30 minutes. Other films I really enjoyed this year were The Grey, Lawless and Looper, and I swear there were actually reasons I liked them aside from Guys I Fancy Star In 'Em.

3. Your favourite book read this year?

I am ashamed to say I have not read that many books this year - what I did read was mostly Sutcliff. The Shining Company was probably my favourite, and I hope more people will have read that by the next Sutcliff Swap!

4. Your favourite album or song to listen to this year?

I don't think I have one - I usually listen to film soundtracks, classical, and things I'm far too embarassed to list in public.

5. Your favourite TV show of the year?

I have watched lots of TV this year! My favourite was the Borgias for that amazing second half of the season and Micheletto, but I also enjoyed Homeland, Game of Thrones, Fresh Meat (everyone should watch this! It is the best university comedy ever), Downton Abbey (apparantly I am the only one not upset by Matthew's death, because I found him a dull, irritating drip. Now kill off Mr Bates, writers!
), and as much as I didn't care for most of series 5 of Merlin and what they did to Morgana, I did approve of the magic reveal.

6. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?

Downton Abbey, although I don't have the urge to read a huge amount of fic in it. I am happy enough sitting in my corner quietly shipping Branson/Sybil/Gwen and Sybil/Gwen. Although one of my New Year Resolutions is to finally get started on that Violet/Isobel drawing...

7. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?

Going to be unoriginal and say the dwindling number of people left in Eagle fandom, although I am slightly less sad about this than other people seem to be because my three favourite authors, [livejournal.com profile] carmarthen, [livejournal.com profile] sineala and [livejournal.com profile] isiscolo, are still active and regularly producing awesome fic. Other things I am disappointed in are how quiet Inception fandom is now I've joined (and how awkward it is trying to make friends once things like discussions and friending memes are over and the general demise of LJ), and that TDKR fandom is really tiny and consists mostly of Bane/Blake, and not the pairings and gen backstories I want. Good heavens, I am a whiny entitled person.

8. Your fandom boyfriend of the year?

Tom Hardy, you stupid, sexy, bearded creature. Well, apart from his character in This Means War, because he wasn't enough of a bastard to be attractive to me. I should probably be worried about that.

9. Your fandom girlfriend of the year?

Caterina Sforza from The Borgias. The armour and the Ten More Sons scene... <3

10. Your biggest squee moment of the year?

Going to see The Dark Knight Rises with [livejournal.com profile] goblin_dae, because Batman Begins was how we first met each other and so it was wonderful seeing the final part of the trilogy with her by my side to claw frantically at when a certain character from Begins turned up for his 10-second role. Other awesome fandom things was having [livejournal.com profile] demon_rum, [livejournal.com profile] seascribe and [livejournal.com profile] ninja_orange over to visit during their European travels, successfully (I think?) running the Eagle Reverse Bang, ending up working with authors I love in both the Eagle and Inception regular and reverse bangs, and taking part in [livejournal.com profile] sutcliff_swap (and getting lovely angsty Alexios/Cunorix fic that I'd craved for ages!).

11. The most missed of your old fandoms?

Well... I still don't miss Star Wars that much (though all the fusions with other fandoms, yes, give me), and TDKR made me care more about Ducard and his wife than Bruce/Ducard, so uh, I guess I have none?

12. The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?

I don't really get into fandoms that way. Part of me is hoping that I fall for the new Star Trek because it could be fun to be in a large, active fandom for once, but I suspect my aversion to Chris Pine's face makes that quite unlikely.

13. Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?

Is Mad Max: Fury Road coming out in 2013? If so, THAT.

Non-fandomwise, 2012 has been pretty awesome. In January I had the most stressful weekend ever after the PhD interview for the one and only project I'd applied for, but I ended up getting it and then immediately spending the whole evening literally sobbing with relief. A few months later I finished my Masters thesis and my hated job, said goodbye and good riddance to Manchester Uni, packed everything up and moved to Glasgow where I now have a huge Victorian flat with dodgy heating in a lovely area of the West End, friends nearby to have a social life with, a challenging but fun project that doesn't make me want to burn down the lab every week, a wonderfully supportive supervisor and several PhD siblings I'm very fond of. If 2013 is half as good, I'll be very happy!

Also, thank you to everyone who sent me birthday emails, PMs and things - you make me feel terrible about regularly forgetting every else's birthdays (including those of my parents, my best friends, and on several awkward occasions, the Wife's), but all your messages were very much appreciated. Here is a photo of what I looked like on my birthday:

S1 Sybil/Branson/Gwen will always be my happy place! Maybe your picnic story could convince me to draw more of them, hint hint hint. ;)

My evil scheme is complete! :p

Right now I'm planning on plunking them in a bluebell glade. And Branson has actually been driving them someplace, so it's totally reasonable that he would be wearing his uniform!
