Haha, I felt I was all "Waah me me me me me waah," though maybe that's because that was all I wanted to post about, but luckily I made myself sit on my hands before people started wanting to punch me.

Hahaha, I think I can guess what conversation you were referring to. yes, happy Zoe = happy wife. ;)

Mm, meringues. If you come visit me up in Glasgow I already know a lovely tea shop that sells all sorts of meringues. I basically went for that PhD so I could go there for afternoon tea and cake every week.

When I first read it I think I inhaled my tea. :)

I'd like to do a visit to Scotland in the summer - I want to go visit that church the Italians built on the island during the war. The lure of tea shops and meringues is another temptation. I can totally understand why it might have influenced your academic choices.

Yes, come visit! Having people over will be my excuse to have a second bedroom rather than a Wife's Room For Dumping All His Shit. ;) I'm rather looking forward to exploring more of Scotland - so far I've been to St. Andrews, Dundee (shithole), Glasgow, Edinburgh and Elgin, but outside of those cities I haven't seen much. When I was living in St. Andrews I was a) poor and b) didn't own a car so I never really went exploring.

I've only been to Edinburgh in recent years - I've not travelled around Scotland since I was a wee bairn - well, mid-teens any way. All I remember of that trip was MIDGES. The little fuckers loved me a grand buffet they could continuously snack on.

Looks like you've got lots to see. Are you the outdoorsy type? I imagine there are some spectacular places to hike in. I recently came across this Guardian article (http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2008/may/09/scotland.railtravel) about the most northerly railway in Britain, which goes through some amazingly beautiful and desolate parts of Scotland.
