Also I don't know what your problem is with rectums. A) They are a fascinating piece of muscle, and B) wtf are you doing with mouse rectums? Perhaps I do not want to know.

I will do no such thing - I know better than to stand in the way of a Glaswegian. Especially if you smell a little bit of alcohol.

I have nothing against rectums yet. I think the infection takes place in the lower digestion system of the mouse but you look at it with live imaging rather than killing and slicing up the poor rodent. And then they recover from the infection and get sent to a nice lab mouse retirement home in the country!

Mind you, now I rather like swcajolings's image of me putting indignant mice in some sort of harness and peering up their asses with a massive magnifier attached to my head while I take notes...

I like that too! It's very victorian and things. COMICALLY OVERSIZED MAGNIFYING GLASS! And all those happy little mice, out in the countryside, spending their well-earned retirement dodging hawks.
